Mary Karmelek is a writer whose work touches upon art, architecture, cultural heritage, cities, and the body.
Mary’s fiction, criticism, and journalism has appeared in such places as The Brooklyn Rail, Public Seminar, Hyperallergic, Newsweek, and elsewhere.
She is a contributor to Publisher’s Weekly and a member of the National Book Critics Circle, where she was an Emerging Critic Fellow from 2025-2026. Mary also hosts the Two-Faced Reading and Variety series at Green Lung Studios in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
Originally from Buffalo, NY and proud of it, Mary holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School and an MA in English Literature from Fordham University.
She is currently completing her first novel and lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
